Commission staff said the city of Seaside retains ownership of the Bob Chisum Community Center property and building, while the Sunset Park and Recreation District manages day-to-day operations under a standing intergovernmental agreement.
"The city of Seaside owns the building, the property and the building. Park and Recreation District manages the building," staff member Darren Muj explained, describing the long-standing arrangement and how major trade work (plumbing, HVAC maintenance and annual maintenance contracts) is handled by the city through existing vendor agreements.
Commissioners discussed grounds care and said they had asked the city to roll exterior landscaping for the center into the city’s contract with Nature's Helper, the vendor that handles other municipal landscaping. That request had not yet been implemented; staff said it was being pursued for the next budget year.
On capital needs, staff reported the commission proposed a backup generator for the building and that the item appears in the draft budget for the coming fiscal year, though the city council must still adopt the budget and could remove the item before approval.
Commissioners agreed to follow up on the landscaping contract and to monitor the council’s budget decisions regarding the generator during upcoming budget-committee and council meetings.
