The New College Institute marketing committee voted to advance a new mosaic-style logo and accompanying branding package to the full board for final consideration.
Olivia, who ran the presentation, said the rebranding follows recent legislation enacted by Delegate Levier Bowling and Senator Shinny Bosan and signed by Governor Spamberger that enables the institution to adopt the new name West Piedmont Higher Education Center. "I'll run the PowerPoint and then Valerie if you want to jump in whenever you want as we go through it," Olivia said during the meeting.
A committee member framed the redesign as a strategic moment for the institution as it shifts identity and mission under the new name. "The visual identity is our new reality," the committee member said, explaining the logo is intended to make the college’s purpose and pathways clearer to the public.
Presenters described the logo as a system of colored tiles: navy serves as an anchor color representing partnership and stability, while additional colors map to three pillars the institution will emphasize—education, economic development and community. The team also showed monochrome and background-specific variations and outlined how the full logo or individual tiles will be used in recruitment, outreach and pathway communications.
Committee members praised the design work and discussed whether local imagery such as mountains or roads should be incorporated into future materials. One member noted the underlying legislation was signed in late March, and another said she expected the full board would "unanimously vote" to approve the rebranding when it arrives for board action.
A committee member moved to approve the presentation and the new logo and to forward the package to the full board; another member seconded the motion. The committee took a voice vote and the chair confirmed the motion will move on to the full board. There were no public comments submitted online and no members of the public requested to speak during the meeting.
With no further committee or staff comments, members moved and seconded to adjourn, and the chair closed the meeting.
