Council confirms housing/zoning inspector and approves personnel ordinances

Council confirmed the appointment of Michael Rataba Jr. as the village’s housing and zoning inspector and approved multiple personnel-related ordinances.

Council voted to confirm Michael Rataba Jr. after an introduction noting his construction and inspection experience; he was sworn in and welcomed by the president. The appointment was approved by roll call.

Separately, council suspended the rules and adopted Ordinance 2026-16, which amends an employment agreement for an identified employee; the ordinance and the suspension passed on roll call with recorded 'yes' votes including Foster, Vincson (recorded spelling in minutes), Purlin, Boil and Perry. Council also considered and passed Ordinance 2026-17, which retools the fire department organizational chart, creates a part-time fire marshal position focused on fire prevention and inspections, and allows for internal succession and training; presenters said the change was built into the current budget and would require state-mandated certification training for inspection duties.

President and council members congratulated the appointee and noted the staffing changes are intended to improve departmental capacity. The ordinances become effective upon adoption; the clerk recorded the roll-call votes as part of the meeting minutes.
