County Treasurer Becky McNeel presented the finance committee with May financial summaries on Wednesday and described a tax-coding error that left certain Hudson Township parcels undertaxed and may prompt follow-up action by the board.
McNeel said year-to-date state receipts were higher than in 2025 and that shared sales tax and motor-fuel-tax totals were reported in the packet. She reported the county's general-ledger cash balance as $106,390,494 as of May 31 and said Blue Cross Blue Shield claims were higher in May compared with the prior year.
On a separate item, McNeel described a coding problem affecting Village of Hudson parcels that led the clerk's office to correct tax rates and reissue bills. County staff said the undercollection totaled roughly $81,728 (the figure was read aloud and the transcript contains a garbled numeric token); staff said certified mailers to roughly 700 parcels will be required to put outstanding amounts on the 2027 bills if necessary.
County staff also said a request could come to the board in July for a no-cost loan to the Village of Hudson to cover the shortfall so the village's current-year budget would not be immediately impacted; the village's mayor told staff that the shortfall would represent about 10% of the village budget. Member Bessler asked the clerk's office to produce a root-cause memo and corrective-action plan, and Chair Layman agreed the committee would request that memo.
The committee accepted and placed on file the treasurer's monthly financial report by voice vote. No vote roll call or detailed tally was recorded in the meeting transcript.
