Parks staff reported several operational and program updates to the board, including an imminent splash‑pad opening, grant progress for Mayfair Meadows Park, volunteer and student beautification projects, and multiple summer events.
The staff update said the splash pad should open Saturday, weather permitting, after repairs to vandalism damage and pump/chlorine testing. "We have an open date on this Saturday," the staff member said, adding that a few final fixes were planned.
Staff also said design work on Mayfair Meadows Park is nearing completion, that the grant application is in tribal consultation with the National Park Service and that they expect to hear about funding in July. Volunteers and National Honor Society students recently completed planting, sanding and repainting projects at local parks.
Program notes included a farmers market with approximately 25 vendors expected each week, an America 250 block party and fireworks planned for July 3, and a free skateboard camp (late July and early August) organized by a longtime program director who recently moved to the area. Forestry work continues: the district forester earned ISA certification and staff are about 90 percent complete on a draft tree guide to inform future plantings and large‑scale pruning projects.
Staff emphasized maintenance and staffing pressures for irrigation, restrooms and mowing after heavy spring rains and said they are preparing an RFQ for a splash‑pad study that would include maintenance inventory, schedules and potential alternatives.
Next steps: staff will finish a few final tasks to open the splash pad, continue coordination on Mayfair Meadows grant review, and circulate the RFQ for the splash‑pad study.
