Musselshell County Extension readies fair activities, seeks small grants for supplies

An extension agent said the council purchased a display fridge to allow 4‑H baking and cooking projects to be exhibited at the fair and described plans for a clover‑bud show and a showmanship clinic for youth participants.

The agent said the fridge is a modest glass‑front unit purchased cheaply to help the baking and cooking kids show their products, and that organizers are arranging a small show and tell for clover‑buds following the small‑animal round robin.

On funding, the agent said they applied to the Valley Community Foundation for money to buy four paint pens — “hopefully to get four more paint pens, two regular ones and two big ones” — and that, if that grant is not awarded, they will apply elsewhere, including a West Community grant or credit union funding. The applicant described the request as a larger ask and said they would hear about the decision in a couple of weeks.

Organizers also said they are still seeking a small‑animal judge and that some fair tasks must wait until closer to the event date. No formal votes or funding approvals were recorded at the meeting.

Next steps: staff will await grant decisions, continue recruiting a judge and finalize fair schedules and clinics.
