The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners opened a public hearing June 2 on proposed electrical and mechanical fee schedules but voted to recess the hearing until June 16 after county staff did not attend to explain the changes. The motion to recess carried on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Chair Christa Yokum opened the hearing and invited staff, proponents and opponents to speak. After no staff representative appeared, a commissioner objected to proceeding without an explanation for the public and said, "On June 16th, I'm going to vote against this because staff didn't come and explain what this is." The board then recessed the hearing to allow staff to present the proposal at the June 16 meeting.
The action preserves public notice and gives the board and members of the public an opportunity to review staff materials and hear an explanation before any vote on adopting the fee schedules. The clerk noted that written materials for today’s meeting are available on the county website at lancaster.n.gov.
The board recorded a unanimous roll call on the motion to recess. The hearing will resume at the board's stated June 16, 2026 meeting time, when staff are expected to be present to discuss the proposed fee schedules.
