Court directs staff to accelerate resale of county trustee properties and to propose reduced minimums

Staff briefed the court on a large inventory of properties shown in appraisal records as held by the county trustee. Many parcels have outstanding taxes, cleanup liabilities, ambiguous legal descriptions or are in flood-prone locations; staff said those conditions complicate resale and the return of parcels to the tax roll.

Staff reported they will present private resale bids and a formal proposal on July 1 that could include reduced minimum bids for long-struck parcels and options to package multiple lots for resale. Commissioners discussed the trade-offs — accepting low sales prices but returning lots to the tax roll and shifting maintenance liability to private owners — and directed staff to seek concurrence from other taxing entities where law requires it.
