Representatives from the township’s volunteer fire companies updated the Board of Supervisors on operations and training at the Nov. 14 meeting.
Tim VanBlargan, assistant chief with LPFC, reported 58 calls for the year, said four members completed a Ropes I class and four attended a HazMat awareness class that requires a written test, and noted upcoming community fundraising events: a sold‑out gun bingo on Nov. 16 (doors at 5 p.m., games at 7 p.m.) and a turkey raffle on Nov. 22 (doors at 6 p.m.). VanBlargan also said renovations to the Social Hall are scheduled to begin in December.
Gary Kuntz, assistant chief with NTFC, reported 141 calls year‑to‑date and multiple recent certifications among members, including Ropes I, vehicle rescue awareness and operations, and special vehicle rescue. Kuntz said NTFC provided equipment and personnel for specialized training and recently trained jointly with Germansville Fire Company and the Lehigh County Drone team at Bake Oven Knob. He said NTFC will host a meeting with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the National Park Service on Nov. 18 to review resources following a recent incident on the Appalachian Trail.
Kuntz noted ongoing fundraisers: an annual filling sale with pickup on Nov. 23 and a Christmas giveaway with 1,000 tickets printed at $20 each, featuring 11 guns and an ATV. He also described public outreach on Halloween night, including traffic control and an open engine room with refreshments.
The board did not take formal action on fire company reports; the items were informational.
