Coaches recognized Yukon High School tennis players for historic state results and strong academic records at a recent meeting.
"They're history makers for our program," one coach said of the boys pair who the coach described as the school's first boys state champions. The coach cited the pair's season record together (26–6) and gave career records for the two players (one with a 78–31 record, the other 63–26). The coach said both would continue to play tennis in college, identifying one player as headed to Hastings in Nebraska and the other to a college in Texas.
The coach introduced girls varsity coach Lauren Moore and noted that the girls team finished third in the 6A state tournament. The coach highlighted individual accomplishments: one singles player reached sixth place in state, a doubles pair rallied from a 0–6 first-set deficit to win in a tiebreaker, and a senior doubles pair finished the season as state runner-up with strong multi-year records.
The coach praised student-athletes' academic performance as well as their on-court leadership and thanked parents, volunteers and district staff for supporting facilities and programs. Team members posed for photos after the recognitions; no formal action was taken.
