Kosciusko County commissioners voted to adopt an ordinance that sets a 20 mph speed limit on several roads within the Enchanted Hills Association and approved related operations items brought forward by County Highway Superintendent Steve Moriarty.
Moriarty told commissioners the measure is a cleanup to ensure posted speed limits are codified in county ordinance for streets including Treasure Islands, Raggedy Ann, Surgallahan and Pixie Parkway. He said the change is needed because a posted limit that is not established in ordinance may not be enforceable in court. The commission moved, seconded and approved the ordinance by voice vote.
The board also approved a proposed lease for a property referred to as the Norse Stone pile, located just north of State Road 19. Moriarty said the county’s proposed lease would run from 2026 through 2036 at $2,000 per year and would allow the highway department to store stone used in its chip‑and‑seal program. Moriarty told the meeting the arrangement should reduce travel time and fuel costs for the road crews.
Separately, commissioners reviewed two vendor quotes to replace a garbage disposal at the county jail. Glossom Food Equipment quoted $8,988.06 and a higher quote was recorded from another vendor. The commission approved the lower quote and authorized the purchase and installation of the Glossom unit.
Each of those items was presented at the meeting and approved by voice vote. The commissioners took the consent‑style votes after brief discussion and without roll‑call tallies recorded in the public remarks.
