Representatives of the San Mateo–Foster City School District briefed the City Council on June 1 about district construction and community access plans and signaled a November 2026 bond measure to address long‑running facility needs.
Maggie Trin, identified as board president, and Superintendent Diego Ooa presented slides showing recent campus upgrades and next steps. Ooa said an 18‑month master plan concluded the district’s facilities needs exceed $1 billion and described a potential bond near the $490 million range that would fund projects across 22 campuses. "We're looking at a school district that has facilities needs in excess of a billion dollars," Ooa said.
District leaders highlighted recent completed projects (new gyms, fields, solar installations, and multi‑purpose rooms) and invited partnership with the city on issues such as after‑hours parking access and EV chargers at campuses. Trin urged residents to visit project photos and QR codes provided in the presentation, and the district said it expects to ask its board to consider a bond resolution in about 25 days.
The district also proposed opening all school campuses to the public every weekend beginning August 2026. Councilmembers expressed support and asked staff to explore parking and EV charging collaborations.
What’s next: the school board is expected to review a bond resolution, and the district will continue outreach to residents and the city on parking and access agreements.
