The Opa-locka Planning & Zoning Board on June 2 approved a small‑scale future land‑use amendment and a rezoning request to reclassify three parcels on Northwest 135th Street as industrial, aligning the map with the long‑running All Parts International salvage operation.
Attorney Edward Martos, speaking for the applicant, said the business has operated at the site since 1992 and was unaware that a 2015 map change altered its land‑use designation. "We really just want to correct that mistake on the map so we can keep being ... a happy business in Opa-locka," Martos said. He told the board the applicant accepts staff‑recommended conditions.
Staff recommended approval to make the land‑use and zoning consistent with surrounding industrial uses and to satisfy comprehensive plan objectives on protecting and supporting industrial districts and ensuring appropriate transitions to other uses. Staff advised several conditions: remove stacked cars from the Northwest 135th Street frontage, install and maintain visual screening that complies with city standards (fencing/walls/landscaping), and prohibit expansion of outdoor storage beyond existing operational limits.
Board members voted unanimously to approve the small‑scale map amendment and the rezoning to I4 (liberal industrial/storage and salvage), with the cited conditions attached to the rezoning. The action regularizes a multi‑decade business and requires the owner to complete the screening and storage restrictions outlined by staff.
