Middlesex High School confers diplomas on Class of 2026 at commencement

Middlesex High School held commencement exercises on May 30, 2026, where school leaders and administrators recognized board members and staff before conferring diplomas to the Class of 2026.

The ceremony opened with choral and recorded musical selections. A presenter welcomed families and visitors, asked that cell phones be silenced and introduced Kylina Morning to lead the pledge of allegiance. The school choir performed the national anthem to applause.

School officials and local elected representatives were recognized by name, including members of the county board of supervisors and the board of education. Administrators and department directors were introduced and thanked for their roles supporting students.

Faculty awards were announced during the program: the citizenship awards went to Ashlin Sears (female recipient) and Bishop Hanscom (male recipient). The honor awards were announced for Caitlyn Hargrove (female) and Gunnar Maren (male). The school also recognized seniors who completed specialized programs: six students were named as completers of the Chesapeake Bay Governor School for Math and Science; others were honored for Bridging Communities Regional Career and Technical Center credentials, RCC workforce certifications and JROTC Army participation.

Names of graduating students were called and received amid cheering and applause. An official declaration that the assembled students had met graduation requirements was made for the Class of 2026, citing the Virginia Department of Education and the Middle Sex County School Board. Guests were asked to remain in the gym until the procession of graduates concluded.

The ceremony concluded with processional music as graduates exited the gym.
