At its June meeting the Crown Point City Council approved multiple ordinances and administrative items that will shape near-term development and municipal operations.
Rezoning approvals: On second reading the council passed Ordinance 2026-05-11 (rezoning 34.13 acres at 13209 Delaware Street) and Ordinance 2026-05-12 (rezoning 77.16 acres at 13232 Delaware Street). Jim Weezer, representing the petitioner for Lenar Homes, told the council a zoning commitment containing plan-commission conditions had been recorded and that the documents reflect the agreed elements. Both ordinances passed by roll call with recorded affirmative votes from the council.
Fire-department penalties: The council adopted Ordinance 2026-05-13, an amendment to Code 91.99A that broadens local authority to impose fines for fire-code violations beyond open-burning. The fire chief and council members stressed the protocol remains educational first and that fines are intended to encourage compliance rather than raise revenue.
Other actions: Council approved a city use variance (Resolution 2026-06-08R) to allow a wastewater treatment facility on a newly annexed city parcel and approved several first readings to clean up zoning and special-use language (Ordinances 2026-06-14, -15, -16). The council also approved a correction to the 2026 salary ordinance (Ordinance 2026-06-17) to add a budgeted lieutenant position in the police department; rules were suspended and the ordinance adopted that night. Staff presented updated 2026 PACE fees, which the council approved as presented.
