The board packet included a bundle of policy updates beyond device rules, and staff briefed the board on three items of operational significance.
First, staff introduced a new policy (6116) to formalize time‑and‑effort reporting for employees paid with federal grant funds. The Indiana Department of Education’s desktop monitoring found the district needed a specific policy matching existing procedures; staff said the new language documents required documentation and reporting practices so the district’s business office complies with federal grant rules.
Second, revisions to coach‑related policy (1520) now require that all paid and volunteer coaches in IHSAA‑sponsored activities be rostered and accredited before any student contact and complete mandated training on concussions, heat‑illness prevention and abuse protection, as well as student mental‑health and suicide‑prevention topics.
Third, mandatory curriculum policy 2221 was updated to expand required instruction: it now requires instruction on how dangerous communicable diseases spread and sanitary prevention methods (minimum by grade five) and explicitly lists computer science among the sciences covered by instruction.
Staff said these policies will be included in the June packet for first reading, and that the business office had coordinated with IDOE officials to ensure the 6116 draft meets monitoring expectations.
