City reports busy summer construction; commissioners press for clearer Click & Request follow-up on ADA ramps

Greg Pachelli of TMP reported a busy start to construction season across Norwalk, citing work on West Rocks Road (sidewalks, ramps and raised crosswalks), continuing work on East Wall Street and Lauren Austin Street, and an imminent ground‑breaking for a Hamilton Avenue staircase. Pachelli said the West Rocks work "should be completed by the summertime." He also said school‑zone flashers received state traffic‑authority approval for the stretch that includes Winston Prep to All Saint.

Commissioner Elizabeth Style raised a resident concern that an ADA ramp at the corner of Grumman (Grumman) Avenue and Sherwood Street appears unfinished, with a drop-off that could pose a hazard. Pachelli recommended residents submit an item through the city's Click & Request system so the project manager can respond; he noted the system routes requests to the appropriate department and that follow-up communication varies by case.

Commissioners said the Click & Request follow-up has sometimes been limited to status notices (open/closed) without an explanatory reply, and urged simple messages clarifying next steps (for example, whether a location was forwarded to the state DOT). "Even that would… make sure that residents felt heard by this system," one commissioner said. TMP agreed to consult customer service about clearer, more actionable responses.
