Nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace seeks local chapter; councilmembers pledge to sponsor beds

A representative from Sleep in Heavenly Peace outlined the nonprofit’s mission to build and deliver beds to children who lack them and asked the Warner Robins City Council on June 1 for help establishing a local chapter. The presenter said about 48 children in the city are currently waiting for beds and requested assistance locating a storage/warehouse facility of roughly 4,000 square feet with garage access to house jigs, trailers and materials.

"No kid sleeps on the floor in our town," the presenter said, describing build days, volunteer requirements and the full bed package (frame, mattress, pillow and bedding). He said a single bed costs roughly $250 to sponsor, including mattress and bedding.

Councilmembers responded with immediate offers of support. Several councilmembers said they would pool personal funds to sponsor a bed and planned to consult the city human resources office about organizing an employee donation drive. The mayor and council encouraged residents to volunteer, host drives, or sponsor build days.
