The Finance Committee on June 1 reviewed April financial reporting and several scheduling and grant matters.
Mr. Key, who presented the finance narrative, said the village's fund summaries and supporting schedules were in the meeting folder and that the books were balanced for the month. He highlighted a transfer from the general fund into the police-levy fund to cover the policing contract and reviewed revenue and expense comparisons with 2025. Mr. Key told the committee that tax collections for the month driving year-to-date increases included early payments by withholding payers and individuals.
Committee members said the existing cadence — holding committee meetings the first week of the month — often leaves departments unable to provide up-to-date monthly reports. After discussion, the committee voted to recommend to full council that committee meeting dates move from the first Monday to the third Monday of the month starting in July so finance and related departmental reports arrive more current.
On old business, Village Manager Brown said the village received notice of a $25,000 community-based event grant earmarked for the village's 80th-anniversary celebration; staff said the award is typically reimbursed and that the initial deposit may arrive later. Brown said staff are exploring souvenir/booklet options and may publish a digital program with limited printed copies.
Committee members also discussed an $85,000 CDBG tree-canopy award previously applied for by the interim manager. Staff said those CDBG dollars must be spent within three years and are exploring whether an amended grant agreement or different eligible uses (facility lighting, street work, or beautification) would better meet current priorities. Members urged rapid planning to demonstrate the village can spend funds and thus be competitive for future allocations.
The committee moved and carried acceptance of the finance report and voted to recommend the schedule change to full council.
