The Windham Public Schools Board of Education voted Feb. 27 to make March 6 a half day of classes for students and a half professional-development (PD) day for staff.
Dr. Iris Gomero, listed among staff present, presented slides outlining three options for March 6 — leave it as a PD day, make it a half student day/half PD day, or make it a full student day — and told the Board that union leaders had requested the body consider adjusting the approved school calendar. She also reminded members that only the Board has authority to change the calendar.
After an initial nonbinding show of hands produced a 3–3 split on the preferred option, Board member Brendan O'Neill moved to adopt the half-day plan. Mia Mitoma seconded the motion. Voting in favor were Board Chair Lynne Ide and board members Brendan O'Neill, Mia Mitoma, Catherine Aillón Pomo and Paula Haney; Mark Doyle voted against. The motion passed 5–1.
Board Chair Lynne Ide opened and closed the meeting; she called the session to order at 5:01 p.m. and signed the minutes "Respectfully submitted". The meeting was adjourned at 5:26 p.m. after a motion by O'Neill.
The change alters the district calendar only for March 6, 2026; the minutes note the approval was subsequently recorded as "APPROVED 3/18/2026." The record indicates Mark Doyle arrived at 5:06 p.m.; the minutes list staff present as Dr. Iris Gomero, Neil Weathers, Kimberly Beck and Albie Harris and additional attendees Kim Lewis, Camie Niland-Poirier, Alyssa Larkham and Raquel Luna.
