The Sioux Falls School District presented results from a 30‑member facilities task force that reviewed 38 candidate projects and produced a tentative priority ranking the board was asked to acknowledge.
Superintendent Dr. Nold described the task force process: community applications yielded more than 140 volunteers, the team met four times (including a school tour), examined enrollment and city growth projections and worked with consultants to rate projects against district facility standards.
The task force’s top priorities identified in the meeting include replacing Whittier Middle School and building a west‑side elementary. District staff said rankings considered current capacity, projected population growth in several quadrants (including a northwest growth area and land acquired from Lennox), and equity of access across the district.
Dr. Nold summarized projected near‑term growth figures shared by city planners (districtwide population and neighborhood projections were discussed in ranges during the presentation) and said the task force will solicit community feedback through surveys and listening sessions in September and November. The district plans to return to the board with a budget projection and a formal recommendation in January; the board may consider placing a bond measure on the April 2027 ballot if it approves proceeding.
The board acknowledged the task force report by voice vote. District officials said more detailed project descriptions and cost estimates will be presented at an August board meeting and during planned community engagement.
