The board approved appointments for four seasonal interns to support the village's Safe Streets for All Transportation Safety Action Plan. The appointments cover June 2, 2026 through Jan. 31, 2027, with hourly compensation of $15'$17 depending on the position and funding provided through the Safe Streets grant.
Trustee Foster moved the appointments, which included college students Laya Healey (economics major), Madison Reeves and Caitlyn Piconei, and high-school student William Bowler. The hires were presented as part of the grant'funded workforce development and public outreach goals; board discussion noted that interns will help with public-relations work, crash-analysis outreach, and community engagement and that one candidate has prior outreach experience at summer concert events.
Special Project Coordinator Eliza Schiff was identified in the record as recommending the hires and explaining how the interns will support behavior-focused safety efforts alongside physical projects. Board members praised the initiative as an opportunity to combine civic engagement with communications and workforce training. The appointments were approved by voice vote.
The interns' compensation will be covered by grant funds; staff said the village has budgeted for multiple interns this summer and that the village will provide space and supervision as needed.
The appointments take effect immediately; staff will finalize hiring paperwork and onboarding.
