Hillsboro School District used its weekly podcast to detail several community programs, committee openings and events for June and the summer.
Beth Graasier, HSD communications officer, encouraged families of students navigating IEPs and 504 plans to attend the Special Education Advisory Committee meeting on Thursday, June 11 from 5 to 6 p.m. via Zoom to connect with district leadership and share feedback. She also said applications are open through June 19 for the district's Educational Equity Advisory Committee, established under Oregon Senate Bill 732 to advise the superintendent and school board on equity practices.
The district announced free summer meals for children and teens (ages 1–18) at six local parks Monday–Thursday from June 23 through Aug. 13, with rural weekly pickup available. Beth noted that Oregon's Summer EBT provides a one-time $120 payment on an Oregon EBT card per eligible child; she directed listeners to the Oregon Department of Human Services for program administration and to the SEBT call center at 833-673-7328 for questions.
Other community notices included the Hillsboro Public Library summer reading kickoff with author Sadia Farooqi on June 6 at Shute Park Library, the City of Hillsboro Pride Party on June 6 at Shute Park, the Hillsboro Food Co-op community survey for the Block 67 project (construction slated to begin this summer), and the City of Hillsboro's Showtime Concert Series beginning June 18 in Chute Park. The podcast also noted a retirement celebration May 27 honoring 67 retirees and a staff change: as of July 1 employee leaves will be managed by American Fidelity instead of OneDigital under an approved equivalent plan.
Listeners were directed to the district website for event details, application links and additional resources.
