Seattle council signs proclamations for Gun Violence Awareness Month and to honor Amar Ashaun Murphy Pane

The Seattle City Council unanimously affixed signatures to two proclamations moved to the beginning of the meeting.

Council Member Rivera introduced a proclamation recognizing June 2026 as Gun Violence Awareness Month and noted an upcoming gun-violence symposium later in the month. Council members signed the proclamation by roll call (nine "aye" votes).

Council President Hollingsworth introduced a second proclamation recognizing June 6 as Amar Ashaun Murphy Pane Day to honor the student killed on the Garfield High School campus. Council members expressed condolences and support for the family; the proclamation will be formally presented and signatures will be delivered to the family at a ceremony after tomorrow’s meeting. The clerk recorded nine signatures in favor by roll call.

Both proclamations were ceremonial recognitions; no further council action or policy changes were attached to the motions to affix signatures.
