On the podcast the mayor described recent interim appointments to Elgin’s city council and outlined near-term governance priorities.
The mayor said the council appointed Jessica Highness to represent Ward 1 until the regular election in November. She also named Roland Silva as a replacement for Chuck Swain, Agatha Christie Mayfield as successor to Al Rodriguez in Ward 3, and Brenda Pña as the Ward 4 representative. The mayor clarified that these are appointments only through November, when the seats must be filled at the regular election.
She added that the council previously elected Yelicia Love as mayor pro tem and Tiffany St. Pierre as deputy mayor pro; the transcript does not specify vote tallies or the formal motion language.
Looking ahead, the mayor said she requires a team-building session at the end of June to promote cohesion among the new council members. She said the council will resume work on a multi-month strategic plan in July — a project that began under the former city manager — and that the budget will follow, with intent to address previously noted problems and reach stable staffing and implementation.
The mayor closed by encouraging residents to talk with their ward representatives and to stay engaged as the council refines priorities and works through budget decisions.
