AOA presenters (Cindy and a colleague) updated the board on career and technical education (CTE) and partnership activity across Anchorage schools.
They described Aviation Day—sponsored by Alaska Airlines with busing provided—mechatronics demonstrations that connected high‑school students to fifth‑grade classrooms, and employer engagement from organizations including Trident Seafood, Alaska Trucking Association and others. The presenters said nearly half of high schools participated in a federal courthouse visit and that CTE programming emphasized industry partnerships, mentoring and work‑based learning.
The presenters highlighted the Spirit of Tomorrow awards, with the FBI winning the student choice booth and Beartooth Theater and Grill receiving an outstanding partner award. They also noted a teacher apprentice program, Denali awards, and plans for two multi‑day career‑cluster sessions for about 400–420 rising ninth graders and additional students from the Kuselvac career academy.
Board members thanked presenters and noted the district will continue community communications about these programs and partnerships.
