Albany County School District #1's Extensions Team updated trustees on quarter-4 curriculum work at Spring Creek Elementary on April 8, describing inquiry-based, project-based and place-based instruction designed to connect students with community partners and the University of Wyoming.
Presenters said kindergarten through fifth-grade classes completed a range of activities — from continent-focused guest speakers in kindergarten to a place-based geology trip for fourth graders — and previewed upcoming field trips and projects. First-grade students staged a classroom 'Cinderella mystery' that used evidence-gathering and measurement; a short clip shown to the board included a student-played 'Bruno' confessing to taking the slipper. Second graders explored nutrition and the digestive system with hands-on models; older elementary students worked on art integration, civic engagement projects and STEM challenges.
Extensions staff noted partnerships with the University of Wyoming and local conservation organizations, and said several grade levels were close to meeting a 28-hour instructional target for the quarter. Presenters invited board members' questions after a short video and classroom clips.
The board will receive no formal action on this update; presenters said they remain available for questions and will return with further summaries as the quarter concludes.
