Capital Bike Share will expand in Fairfax County in summer 2026, adding stations in Annandale, Seven Corners and Bailey's Crossroads and bringing the county's total to more than 100 stations, a county staff member said.
The announcement framed the expansion as a way to improve local mobility and transit connections. The staff member said the program offers affordable travel options that link to nearby bus routes, shopping centers, restaurants, schools and parks, and noted that stations are located at every Metro rail station in Fairfax County. The presentation also stated the program offers significant discounts for residents who depend on state and federal assistance programs.
A presenter who referenced the Mason District highlighted local access and described the rollout for that area: "Well, we're so excited to have the Capital Bike Share program here in Mason District. Over 20 different bike shares are coming to this area, allowing for accessibility for so many different communities. Not only do we have one of the newest Capital Bike Shares, but guess what? We have a Metro stop. We have a bus stop. Accessibility is the number one priority," the presenter said.
The presenter encouraged residents to visit the Capital Bike Share website or use the mobile app to locate bikes and begin riding. The county did not provide additional implementation details in the recorded remarks, such as exact station locations beyond the named neighborhoods or funding sources and schedule milestones beyond "summer 2026."
