Mayor Gregory Cannon was sworn in at the Aberdeen Township Reorganization Meeting on Jan. 4, 2026, at the Municipal Building at One Aberdeen Square. The oath of office was administered by Mayor Emeritus Tagliarini; Cannon’s term runs through Dec. 31, 2029. The council elected Arthur Hirsch as deputy mayor during the ceremony.
The reorganization included formal swearing-in of councilmembers Pedro Mirabal and Margaret Montone to four-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2029. After taking their seats on the dais, the newly sworn officials offered brief remarks. Councilwoman Margaret Montone thanked residents, supporters and neighbors for their support and said she is “so happy to serve again.” Councilmember Pedro Mirabal thanked family and friends and said he looks forward to serving the community. Deputy Mayor Hirsch thanked family, friends and fellow councilmembers for the opportunity to serve as deputy mayor.
Mayor Cannon thanked those who helped in his campaign, township employees, volunteers and family, and invited attendees to a reception at the Community Center following the meeting. The clerk’s roll call recorded Councilman Arthur Hirsch, Councilman Pedro Mirabal, Councilwoman Margaret Montone, Councilman Swindle and Mayor Gregory Cannon as present; Councilwoman Kelley was noted absent.
The meeting opened for public comment, where a number of residents and local officials offered congratulations to outgoing and incoming officials. The council closed public comment by motion and adjourned at 3:58 p.m.
The reorganization meeting established the township leadership and set the administrative session in motion for 2026.
