The Mount Vernon City Council unanimously approved consolidated accounts-payable vouchers totaling $1,575,536.25 during its Feb. 6 meeting.
Council Member Donte Moore moved to approve the vouchers; Council Member Mike Young seconded. The motion passed with votes from Ray Botch, Joe Gliosci, Donte Moore, Mike Young and Mayor John Lewis.
City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel presented three demolition bid recommendations. She recommended awarding the demolition of the former Dements building at 906 Jordan Street to Heck’s Excavating for $19,950 to be paid from Downtown TIF funds; the council voted to approve that award on a motion by Council Member Joe Gliosci, seconded by Donte Moore.
Bechtel also recommended accepting Kenneth A. Hails Excavating as the low bidder at $11,000 to remove the former train depot at 101 E. Main Street, to be paid from the 1% Retail Tax Capital Account; Council Member Mike Young moved to accept the bid and Donte Moore seconded.
For the final Floodplain Grant demolition at 802 N. 7th Street, Bechtel recommended Heck’s Excavating at $8,500 with reimbursement to the city through the grant; the council approved the award on a motion by Donte Moore, seconded by Joe Gliosci. Bechtel said the city can submit close-out documents for reimbursement once work is complete.
Bechtel asked the council to seek bids to dismantle and relocate the Register News building at 911 Broadway for reconstruction at Veterans Park; Council Member Joe Gliosci moved to seek bids and Council Member Mike Young seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
All motions on vouchers and demolition awards passed 5–0.
