The South County Senior Center board voted to add Weightley Town Hall to the list of sites the center’s consultant will evaluate as part of a facility feasibility study.
Board members reviewed EDM Studio’s scope of work and discussed three candidate sites — the Congo Church (being refurbished), the Oxford press building, and a town-owned warehouse shell — noting trade-offs in parking, windows and program space. A member moved to add the Weightley Town Hall (described in the meeting as ‘‘town offices’’) to the consultant’s list; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Board members stressed that the consultant needs complete program inventories and a strong community-engagement plan. One member said design charrettes should be held ‘‘in all the towns at least one each’’ with an online option for accessibility. The board also discussed logistics such as loading-dock use for food service and the importance of ample parking.
Members requested that staff circulate the EDM presentation to everyone and asked board members to provide written comments. The motion did not specify any immediate funding commitment; members framed the step as recommending that the consultant study the additional site as part of its three-site review.
Next steps: staff will follow up with EDM Studio and confirm community-engagement plans and site details at the board’s next meeting, scheduled for Aug. 3.
