USI tells Steuben County council claims are running about 10% higher in early 2019; plan changes to be considered

Jody Kinsey, a USI Insurance representative, presented the ProClam Plus group health insurance claims‑experience report for the first five months of 2019 at the Steuben County Council’s June 11 special session.

Kinsey told the council that historical claims data from 2015 through the present show that expected claims costs for the current period are running about 10% higher than anticipated for 2019. She said she plans to work with County Auditor Kim Meyers and staff over the next few months on benchmarking and possible plan‑design changes, including consideration of Health Savings Accounts and high‑deductible health plans, and that she expects to have information available for the commissioners prior to the budget process.
