The board heard a first reading of proposed revisions to the district’s medical leave assistance program, commonly referred to as the sick leave bank. HR and representatives from the teachers’ committee presented updated language intended to clarify points that were confusing when the program was first launched.
“This one is our sick leave bank … they felt that there were some things that were confusing in how we initially launched the sick leave bank a year or two ago. And so, based on feedback from everyone, they've come forward with new language,” a presenter said, explaining that HR and the teachers' committee would be on hand at the board meeting to walk trustees through the new wording and the logic behind the changes.
Speakers said the district offers a range of employee benefits — paid medical leave assistance, regular paid time off and three weeks of paid family leave for birth parents — and that after the first reading the item will return for final consideration at a subsequent meeting so that employees may take advantage of the clarified policy if adopted.
