The Shawnee County Board of County Commissioners on May 28 approved multiple routine procurement and administrative items, including a parks capital contract, a detention-center maintenance agreement, voucher payments, and a township appointment.
Parks and Recreation Director Tim Lorent recommended awarding bid 016-26 and contract C2026199 to Safe Slide Restoration to refurbish slides at the Midwest Health Aquatic Center for $89,277. Lorent said the work would be paid by the Parks for All Foundation (interest from an endowment tied to Midwest Health), would begin after the pool season and take an estimated 7–8 days, and that the slides remain usable through the current season. "They'll come in and knock it out," he said.
The board also approved contract C2026196 with Tech84 for one year of maintenance on the adult-detention center body scanner at a cost of $11,800, to be paid from the FY2026 detention budget. County Clerk presented vouchers totaling $1,699,738.21 and commissioners approved voucher payments. In personnel business, the commission appointed Larry Stowe to fill the vacated Mission Township clerk position for the remainder of the two-year term after considering two applicants — Josh Osborne and Larry Stowe.
Commissioners convened a 15-minute executive session to discuss personnel matters related to wages; they reported no action taken on reconvening and adjourned the meeting. All routine motions were approved by unanimous voice votes (3-0).
