The Iberia Parish Council held a public hearing May 27 on a resolution finding the property at 5007 Anker Drive (parcel 020244800) a nuisance and ordering abatement. Owner Adam Var addressed the council in person and apologized for the property condition, described recent back‑surgery and infection that left him incapacitated for a period, and said he has begun cleanup with family help.
Several council members and staff confirmed the council had issued an initial notice in August 2025. After extended testimony and several members noting progress had been made since prior visits, the council voted to defer enforcement and revisit the matter on July 22 (approximately 60 days). Council members asked the owner to provide updated photographs and for permitting/planning staff (Jimmy Landry) to inspect progress; if the council finds insufficient progress at the follow‑up, staff may solicit bids to abate the property and place a lien for costs.
Owner Adam Var described physical limitations, ongoing yard flooding and a family effort to remove debris; he requested more time. Several council members said they would withhold immediate abatement in favor of monitored progress, but emphasized the process will continue if work is not completed.
What’s next: The council will review updated photos and staff inspection results at the July meeting and decide whether to proceed with abatement bids and lien placement.
