The North Spencer County School Corporation Board of School Trustees on the second meeting in May accepted multiple staff resignations and approved a series of appointments to fill vacancies ahead of the 2026‑27 school year.
The board accepted resignations from instructional assistants Liberty Smith, Karen Conner and Faith Shaffer (the latter submitted a letter of retirement), preschool teacher Audrey McClellan, custodian Kelsey Lininger, cook Britney Boone, academic bowl coach Mike Booth and instructional assistant Lucy Junior, who retired after 29 years of service to the district. The board recorded its acceptance by voice vote after a motion and second.
The board approved a slate of appointments recommended by administrators. Kendra Hurst was recommended for a social worker position at BNC Hayes; J.T. Smallwood was named eighth‑grade boys basketball coach; Michelle Coleman was recommended as head cheerleading coach; Shelby Miller was recommended as eighth‑grade girls volleyball coach; Richard Boyd as assistant football coach; Nathan Allen as JV boys basketball coach; Logan Kirksey as freshman C team coach; George Dixon as assistant boys basketball coach; Britney Foote as high school head cheerleading coach; Kim Brown as yearbook sponsor; Josh Wilson as academic bowl coach; and Ashley Peters as corporation test coordinator and instructional coach following the retirement of Angie Bursh. All recommendations were approved by the board.
Administrators also notified the board of an internal staff move — Emily Forston will transfer from sixth grade at David Turnham to second grade at Nancy Hanks — and approved a requested leave of absence for Shannon Ellsworth effective at the start of the 2026‑27 school year.
The board took each personnel item by motion and approved them by voice vote. No individual board member roll‑call votes were recorded in the public transcript.
