Chase County Commissioners approve warrants and payroll; public comments include 250th celebration plans and a $2,500 funding ask

Chase County Commissioners opened their May 29 meeting with routine business and public comment.

The board approved warrants for May 29, 2026, payroll for the April 25–May 24 period, and the minutes of the May 11 meeting after motions and seconds; each motion was carried by voice vote. During public comment, Ray McGorge said he had been selected to facilitate a 250th anniversary talent celebration and asked the county to coordinate on parking, handicapped access, courthouse access for tours, and inclement‑weather backup plans. "We would like for the county to consider ... who we can deal with to make some of this happen," McGorge said.

A second public commenter, who identified herself as Sarah, requested the county continue an annual $2,500 contribution that helps offset administrative duties for local waiver services. She told commissioners Chase County's caseload rose from nine to 11 residents over the last year.

On operational matters, county staff reported facility maintenance (tree removals, roof coatings, door repair) and vendor visits; staff said they will follow up with the commission as needed. The meeting was adjourned after staff briefings and the road‑project discussion.

What happens next: staff will follow up with event organizers about courthouse access and inclement weather plans; commissioners will consider Sarah's funding request during the budget process.
