DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will operate a summer food program from June 8 through July 17 to provide meals to youth ages 18 and younger, host Aviva Hoffman said.
"The program will help ensure DeKalb youth ages 18 and younger will have access to food during the summer break," Hoffman said, adding that full participation requirements and a list of program sites are posted on the DeKalb County government website.
The announcement cited a USDA summer meal study, which Hoffman summarized as finding that 45% of households with children living near a summer meal site are food insecure, compared with 14% nationally. The county urged families seeking help to check site lists and application details at dekalbcountyga.gov, on the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs page under News and Events.
Organizers did not provide enrollment caps, per-meal counts or a breakdown of funding sources in the announcement; listeners were directed to the county site for full participation rules and the current list of program sites.
The county-run program is scheduled to begin on June 8 and run through July 17; families should consult the online site list for locations and registration instructions.
