Council authorizes property acquisition for I‑16 flyover removal, approves two legal settlements

Savannah City Council on May 28 authorized the city manager to acquire property identified as 0 Montgomery Street from JR I LLC to facilitate the I‑16 terminus / Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard flyover removal as part of the city's multimodal transportation plan.

The measure was moved and approved by voice vote. Council discussion of the acquisition was brief on the record; the clerk read the motion and the council voted to proceed with the purchase authorization.

In separate items the council authorized the city attorney's office to settle two claims: $100,000 to Shivandra Caesar and $80,000 to James Mosingo. The city attorney moved the items and the council approved both motions by voice vote.
