District reports tax receipts and updated cash position; tentative amended FY26 budget and five‑year transportation renewal previewed

At the May meeting, Jenny delivered the district’s financial report, saying the district’s bank balance is $33 million and investments total $34 million. She reported month-to-date revenue of $3.1 million and noted that April’s tax receipts added $14.6 million, improving the district’s cash position. Month-to-date expenses were $6.2 million with an overall figure of $59 million cited in the report for context.

Jenny told the board that the tentative amended FY26 budget will be presented for approval at next month’s meeting. She also flagged the Piper capital project invoices that have come in ahead of schedule and said staff will continue to monitor capital spending until the final budget is adopted.

On transportation contracting, Jenny summarized a proposed five-year renewal with Grand Prairie, the vendor that transports special-education students to out-of-district placements. She described early-year rate increases presented by the vendor — about 4.5% for the first and second years — followed by lower increases in later years (presented as roughly 3.5% for remaining years). Jenny said increases this vendor previously proposed had ranged higher and that locking in the presented five-year arrangement would provide predictability for budgeting.

The financial report also noted that grants continue to flow into the district and that staff will seek any additional grant opportunities. The amended FY26 budget will be on the board’s agenda next month for formal consideration.
