The City of Lake Forest Park on May 28 presented a proclamation recognizing Police Chief Mike Harden’s retirement after 25 years of public service, effective May 31, 2026. The proclamation summarized Harden’s career milestones, including his start as a police explorer, service with the West Covina Police Department, promotion to canine officer and later administrative roles, and appointment as police chief in September 2019.
Chief Harden addressed the council and the assembled public, thanking staff, community groups and family. He described a philosophy of "servant-led leadership," emphasized officer training and community partnerships, and noted programs such as National Night Out, the Community Police Academy and regional crisis response work. "I want to be open, accountable, accessible as a police department to your concerns," Harden said, reflecting remarks he gave when first becoming chief.
Council members presented a plaque and a commemorative coin, and Commander Ross described a department tradition in which dispatchers mark an officer’s final sign-out; Harden delivered a brief dispatch sign-off during the ceremony. The council also invited the community to a retirement gathering scheduled by Harden for June 5.
No formal policy or staffing action was taken at the meeting; the event was a ceremonial recognition of Harden’s service. The council thanked Harden publicly for his leadership and wished him well in retirement.
