Neighbors in the Figler Avenue area told the Traffic Authority that a crest/drop in the roadway creates a blind spot at a location where small children frequently play. Staff confirmed a sight‑distance problem, recommended a package approach and proposed a demonstration project: temporary, removable transverse warning/rumble strips at the crest, a hill‑blocks‑view warning sign northbound and speed‑limit reminders posted closer to the hazard.
Board members discussed durability, winter plow impacts, noise concerns and the possibility of using temporary bolted steel strips for a demonstration phase; they agreed testing would let staff collect feedback before considering a more permanent (depressed/grooved) installation. The Authority approved the demonstration and the signage package and asked staff to coordinate installation, a public feedback period, and later evaluation of effectiveness.
Resident Frank Tiero spoke at the meeting and described family safety concerns near his son's home; the board thanked him and signaled strong support for a limited demonstration with monitoring.
Implementation will begin as a demonstration; if the measures reduce speeding and improve sight‑line safety without unacceptable neighborhood impacts they may be made permanent.
