The mayor announced two recent ribbon cuttings in Gardner City and praised the businesses for contributing to the city’s economic and cultural life.
Joy Market and Bakery opened at the former Taylor Rental site on Union Square near Pearson Boulevard and held its first public day on Memorial Day. The mayor described Joy Market as a Guatemalan market and restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner six days a week (closed Sundays) and sells baked goods. "Thank you very much to Alex Aguilar and his family for opening this new Guatemalan restaurant," the mayor said.
The mayor also noted the grand reopening of Gardner Outlet Furniture at Tony Plaza (the former Big Lots site), saying improved parking and visibility appear to have boosted business. "I've heard nothing but, 'Wow, I can't believe this is this big,'" the mayor said, and added that he has "heard their sales have actually skyrocketed since being in the new location." No sales figures were provided in the update.
The mayor characterized both openings as signs of a diversifying local retail and food scene and mentioned additional forthcoming openings, including a Brazilian market and Bria Coffee. He encouraged residents to support local businesses and watch for more announcements on city channels.
