The Nevada City Council voted to hire Ego Source LLC to decommission an underground diesel storage tank at the city’s former wastewater treatment facility and to seek grant support from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to help cover closure costs.
A city staff presenter told the council that state rules require proper closure, including contracting with an Iowa-certified remover and sampling performed by an Iowa-certified groundwater professional. Staff recommended Ego Source LLC as the low, responsive bidder at $8,579 and said the city will apply for an Iowa DNR grant that could reimburse up to $15,000 of eligible expenses.
"Requirements include contracting with an Iowa certified remover and sampling must be performed by an Iowa certified groundwater professional," the staff member said while outlining bid comparisons and the grant plan. Councilmember Jason Samson moved approval of staff’s recommended option; Sandy Eric seconded, and the motion carried.
The council did not discuss alternate bids in detail during the vote; staff noted Ego Source did not subcontract the work and was the most responsive bidder. The item was approved as a contract award and staff will proceed with grant application and contract execution.
