Deuel County commissioners met Sept. 3 in Chappell and recorded a signed interlocal agreement with South Platte Schools for a School Resource Officer for the 2024–2025 school year and approved several county expenditures.
Sheriff Scott DeCoste presented the South Platte Schools interlocal agreement, which the sheriff said will automatically renew each year unless South Platte Schools or Deuel County elects otherwise. An agreement with Creek Valley Schools for a School Resource Officer was tabled until the county receives a signed copy from Creek Valley Schools.
Commissioner William Klingman moved and Commissioner Jim Reichman seconded a motion to approve the purchase of six surveillance cameras at $2,131.64 apiece. The commissioners voted Klingman, aye; Reichman, aye; Commissioner Timm was recorded absent. The purchase will be funded from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds as recorded in the meeting.
Clerk Tammy Sherman presented the county clerk’s fee report for August, showing total fees of $730.98; the report was presented for review and filing. Roads Superintendent Kelly Kopetsky updated the board on Highway Department operations, reporting that crews are continuing ditch mowing and that an advertisement will run seeking applicants for an open Roads Department position.
On motion by Commissioner Klingman and second by Commissioner Reichman, the board approved warrants totaling $122,561.05 (payroll $40,440.54; claims $82,120.51). The transcript records a detailed list of payees and amounts included in the approved warrants.
The board conducted routine procedural business—including motions to excuse Commissioner Timm, approval of the meeting agenda and approval of the Aug. 20 meeting minutes—before adjourning at 8:58 a.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024.
