Christopher Bobbitt was elected mayor of Lawrence Township during the council's Jan. 1 reorganization meeting, winning four affirmative votes with one council member abstaining.
Council members opened the election for a two-year mayoral term ending Dec. 31, 2027. A council member nominated Christopher Bobbitt; another council member seconded the nomination and the presiding official closed nominations. During the roll call, those recorded were: Mister Bobbitt — Yes; Miss Farmer — Yes; Mister Kanakhi — Yes; Miss Perry — "I abstain at this time"; Miss Santos — Yes. The tally as recorded on the meeting record was four yes votes and one abstention, which resulted in Bobbitt's election by the council.
Bobbit (sworn in during the meeting) framed his priorities around steady municipal services and collaborative governance. He told the meeting the council should "strive to act in a just, honorable, and sincere manner," and emphasized listening to residents, maintaining long-term fiscal and service priorities, and working with staff to deliver roads, parks and public-safety services.
The oath of office and the election were part of the reorganization agenda that also included the administration of oaths to other incoming council members and procedural resolutions. The transcript records that a state senator, Shirley K. Turner, participated in administering an oath earlier in the ceremony.
The council moved a set of resolutions later in the meeting; procedural motions were made and seconded and roll-call confirmations followed. The meeting concluded with announcements about local events and an adjournment motion.
