The Doylestown Borough Historic & Architectural Review Board recommended Certificates of Appropriateness for several sign and building applications at its April 23, 2026 meeting at Borough Hall.
The board approved the March 26 minutes before considering applications. Lynn and Bill Goldman sought approval for two signs at 41 E. State Street — a metal front-mounted sign and a painted side sign — with no internal lighting; the board recommended approval as submitted. The motion to recommend approval was recorded as moved by Ralph Fey and seconded by Seth Weiner.
Tom Kesting of Kesting Construction presented a continued application for siding and new decking at 56 E. Oakland Avenue, answering follow-up questions from the March meeting. The board recommended approval with a specification that Hardie trim be 5 1/4 inches thick.
At 188 Green Street, property owner Betty Ann Biggs presented a deck that had been constructed without permits and without prior HARB approval. Planning staff explained the application is part of the compliance process; the board recommended approval and recommended the deck be stained a light gray.
A representative from Lakeside Home Improvement presented a plan to repair and reconstruct an addition built in 2019 at 61 N. Church Street after significant water infiltration. The board recommended approval as submitted.
At 155 N. Main Street, applicants Keila Gilbert and Joe Connelly proposed new siding and barn doors and specified Andersen 400-series windows in a 6-over-6 configuration, vertical siding, vertical black powder-coated metal pockets for the balcony railing, and white half-round gutters. The board recommended approval as submitted.
Homeowner Dominica Lumb sought approval for a two-story rear addition at 96 Cottage Street to expand the kitchen and a bedroom; the board recommended approval contingent on upgrading the proposed windows to Andersen 400-series windows.
Peter Stampfl presented exterior renovations for 110 E. Ashland Street. The board provided significant aesthetic feedback and recommended approval with modifications: white windows; widened porch steps; an extended porch and porch roof to align with shutters; removal of the central porch post; a carriage-house-style garage door; white wood or wood-looking porch railing; porch base constructed from repurposed stone from the house; one-over-one garage windows; and half-round gutters. The motion was recorded as moved by Ralph Fey and seconded by Marie Kovach.
Under old business, Chair Richard Brown reported on the status of a roof application for 24 N. Main Street. With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
The board's recommendations are recorded as motions in the meeting minutes; formal Certificates of Appropriateness will issue following standard borough procedures.
