Council approves $27,640 purchase of crossarms for Echo transmission line

City staff described a prior insulator failure on the Echo transmission line and presented replacement crossarms and insulators to reduce the risk of future failures and fires. The item covered purchasing 31 crossarms to be stocked until fall installation.

Allan, the staff presenter, said the replacement is budgeted in next year’s fiscal plan and that the city received at least two quotes; staff recommended awarding the low quote from Herby Utilities for a total of $27,640. Council Member Higginson moved to approve the purchase; Council Member Bell seconded, and the council approved the purchase on a voice vote.

Allan said the crossarms will be placed into inventory and used when crews schedule the fall transmission‑line work. The council did not attach conditions to the approval.
