Paul Eggert, UDOT region program manager, presented the region’s STIP workshop materials and project highlights, and he explained how a temporary gas‑tax holiday reduced available funds for regionally flexible 'transportation solution' projects this year. Eggert said the region used carryover efficiency funds to advance smaller projects and identified one new funding allocation to add a dual exit on I‑15 at 2700 North.
Eggert walked through examples of pavement‑cycle projects slated for FY27–29, noted the Mountain Green–Morgan interchange is currently programmed for 2031, and said the large I‑15 reconstruction through Davis County is expected to move into design procurement late this year with construction activity beginning in 2027 if procurement and bids proceed as planned. "If you save 10% on a $3 billion project, there's a lot of money that can help fund some other projects," he said, describing why competitive bids matter for statewide programs.
Eggert also highlighted trail and safety programs administered at the state level, including the Utah Trail Network projects and the Highway Safety Improvement Program project list for FY28–29. He encouraged attendees to use the STIP app for project details and to contact staff for follow‑up questions.
Next steps: UDOT expects to advertise many FY27 projects in the coming months and will continue coordination with local agencies on project timing and utility coordination.
