Brandon Cooper, Riverdale City director of community development, briefed the committee on three major local initiatives: the Westbench campus, a new roundabout project, and the Stringtown District master plan.
On Westbench, Cooper said the site is roughly 80 acres and largely owned by America First, which plans a campus with multiple office buildings, parking structures and related commercial and housing uses. Cooper said infrastructure investments for the project — including a realignment and reconstruction of 1500 West and major utility work — have approached north of $50 million. He described the long‑term buildout as capable of generating several thousand jobs on the campus.
Cooper said the roundabout project addresses a previously unsafe five‑leg intersection adjacent to a 64‑lot residential development; construction is underway with WHOG, CMAC and local funds. For the Stringtown District master plan, Cooper described a 300‑acre, river‑focused concept that could support up to about 1,300 dwelling units at full buildout and roughly 400,000 square feet of commercial development tied to new riverfront open space and active‑transportation connections.
Cooper asked for future coordination and assistance on key infrastructure elements, including potential bridge or interchange connections to I‑84 to support the new district. He closed by inviting follow‑up discussion and technical coordination with stakeholders.
